Rescue Me ID: 17-08-14-00354Mini potbelly pig (male)

Farm Animal    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered

We have had sir Hamilton for 2 years. We got him at a pet store at 3 weeks old and we're lied to about EVERYTHING. We were told 40 lbs, great with other animals and low maintenance. Well that was not true. He is fixed and microchipped. He is territorial of our home and is aggressive towards strangers. He is somewhat receptive towards MTP. He needs to go to someone who has experience with aggressive pigs. He is about 150lbs. His birthday is in late November. He is an inside pig- he is very sensitive to heat(I pampered him- my fault). He will come with everything we have for him i.e. Toys, medication(ivomec), blankets, food. I am asking for ... (Read More)the $200 adoption fee for any INDIVIDUAL interested to make sure that he will not be eaten or used for nefarious purposes. If he is adopted by a rescue group the fee does not apply. He will be happier with more land and hopefully piggy friends. (Less)

My name is Jimmy Dean and I am a 3 year old mini pig. I'm good with little dogs, love treats and to play outside. I prefer to sleep inside at night or if it's hot outside prefer to be inside. My mom is heartbroken that she needs to rehome me but after is not being given any options due to city codes which have changed and don't realize I'm just like a small overweight dog. My mom can't move her other kids to a farm right now where we can all be happy together so she hopes someone will help me live out my days enjoying a farm.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Farm Animal in Texas
Farm Animals can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. Farm animals such as sheep, goats, and pigs are useful additions to working farms. For example, sheep can provide people with milk for cheese and other dietary staples, as well as wool for clothing. Dairy goats are so hardy and such valuable sources of food that providing one for a family living in extreme poverty (through an organization such as Heifer International) can completely alter the existence of that family. Farm animals provide manure for fertilizer to grow healthy vegetables. The sale of dairy, wool, and offspring of farm animals can be a major source of income. Many people think farm animals are cute and picturesque and would like to own one or more. However, caring for these animals is very labor intensive, and unless these animals are part of a working farm, they can become the victims of abuse or neglect.

Potbellied pigs are an excellent example. Potbellied pigs became popular as house pets in the nineties. However, pigs can weigh over 130 pounds and are not as easy to care for as other household pets. Pigs need to be outside to satisfy their natural instincts to rut. Sadly, many owners of potbellied pigs are not ready for the commitment and challenges of having a pig for a pet, leaving many animals in need of adoption.

lnteresting Farm Animal Trivia Low-Cost Texas Spay & Neuter Clinics
Farm animals are useful sources of fertilizer, food, and clothing. Sheep cheese, though uncommon in the U.S., is tasty and very popular in other parts of the world. Goat milk, unlike cow milk, contains all of the essential amino acids, making it the only regular source of complete protein for countless traditionally vegetarian populations all over the world. Goat dairy products are easier to digest than cow milk, and may even help to prevent some types of gastrointestinal problems.
